PDP demands Hill Development Council for Poonch, Rajouri | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Dec 23: Emphasizing on the need allotting more funds for the developmental of hilly backward areas, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today demanded Hill Development Council for Rajouri and Poonch districts. Interacting with the visiting team of Special Task Force (STF) constituted by the Union Government, senior PDP leader and MLA Darhal Choudhary Zulfikar submitted a memorandum on the behalf of the people of district Rajouri. In the memorandum he stated that geographically, districts of Rajouri and Poonch are different from the rest of the state and have suffered because of its locational disadvantage of Pir Panchal on the one side and Acutal Line of Control on the other side. He also demanded that district Rajouri should be taken under Backward Region Grant Fund (BRGF). He said that a number of blocks in the district namely Budhal, Kalakote, Darhal, Thanamandi and most parts of Rajouri block are not covered under BADP, these blocks are mountainous and hillys having very less development activities in the area and the funds allotted are also very less as compared to the other blocks. In view of this it is requested that the entire district of Rajouri be taken under BRGF for the balanced and equitable development of the state. He also demanded that district sector funds be enhanced from 30 percent to 60 percent. Choudhary Zulfikar further said that tourism potential of this region be explored to the maximum extent which will provide employment as well a boost the economic condition of the people. He also demanded that district Rajouri, Poonch and Shopian be connected with the rest of the country by means of rail for the development and integration of all regions and sub-regions of the State. He also demanded air connectivity of Rajouri.
