National consumer day observed | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, DEC 24: The significance of National Consumer’s Day is to reaffirm the resolve to safeguard consumers’ interests and ensure that the buyers get their due for money in terms of quality and quantity. This was stated by the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) and Transport, Mr. Qamar Ali Akhnoon while addressing at a function of National Consumer’s Day organized by the Legal Metrology Department at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mubarak Mandi here today. He appealed the student fraternity to remain conscious of their rights as a consumer and also to make aware families as well as neighbours to be vigilant about their rights. The Legal Metrology Department also organized a debate on the topic in which 12 students of the school participated. Ms Akhanka Sharma, Ms Sumeet Kour and Ms Preeti Sharma were adjudged as 1st, 2nd and 3rdrespectively. Later, the Minister distributed prizes among the position holders. Among others Secretary CAPD and Transport, Pradeep Gupta, Directors CAPD, Kashmir and Jammu, Deputy Controller Legal Metrology Department, Assistant controller Legal Metrology department Manoj Parbakar , Principal Government Higher Secondary School, Mubarak Mandi, President Consumer’s Protection Organization, President Chamber of Industries and Commerce, Jammu, senior officers of CAPD, Legal Metrology, teachers and students were present on the occasion. Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Anita Sharma Inspector Legal Metrology Department.
