Police act mischievously; nab bar staff, but free goons | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 24: Police tonight acted mischievously when they arrested three staffers of Royal Bar at Gole Market, Gandhi Nagar, but let go two goons who threatened them of dire consequences in case they demanded money from them. Two goons came to the bar at about 8.30 pm and had drinks. However, when they came out without making payment, bar staffers -- Jagdish Singh, Ravi Kumar and Jaidev Singh alias Kaka -- followed them and stopped them on the road outside. When they asked the drunkards to foot the bill, the latter started pushing them and threatened them of dire consequences if they demanded money from them. While the inebriated men pushed the three bar staffers, a police Gypsy, which was already there on the road, reached the spot. While the staffers approached cops to lodge a complain against the goons, they dumped them in their vehicle. The goons, who were not even touched by the overbearing cops, left the spot without making the payment. Instead of enquiring into the matter, police in a most unprofessional manner booked the staffers under various sections of law. The police behaviour showed that either the goons themselves were cops, or they had been planted by police to harass the bar owners, who happen to be the owner of Early Times too. This seems to be part of the government endeavours to victimise the ET management for not toeing the official line while reporting day-to-day events in the newspaper. In the 16-year-history of the bar, such an incident had taken place for the first time. The incident demands a probe by an honest police officer who had a proven track record. |
