CM on10-day-long Christmas holiday | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 24: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today left for London to celebrate Christmas with his mother, Molly Abdullah, and other family members. Official sources said that Chief Minister would be off for 10-day-long holiday. He was scheduled to reach London later today. It will be just second time in the current year that the state shall be without head of the government. Officials said that unlike his predecessors, charge of Chief Minister has not been assigned for the period to Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand. During Dr Farooq Abdullah’s government in 1996-2002, there was no deputy Chief Minister but one of NC’s seniormost Ministers, late Ghulam Mohiuddin Shah, used to function as Chief Minister in absence of Dr Abdullah. Former Deputy Chief Minister, Mangat Ram Sharma, later held the charge of Chief Minister twice when Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was on official and private tour in UK and USA. His successor, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, rarely went on a foreign tour, leaving little chance for his deputy, Muzaffar Hussain Baig, to function as head of the government. |
