Christmas celebrated across Jammu with gaiety | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 25: Christmas Day was celebrated in city of temples- Jammu with great pomp and show. This day was celebrated as the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ. The celebration of the day began on the evening of 24 December. The Christmas-tree was manifested in glory; and, the Yule log was solemnly lighted in many lands .The most distinctive Christmas meal took place after that. In the homes of Christians and churches, people celebrated Christmas by cutting the cake and distributing the gifts on the stroke of twelve. About 5000 people visited the most renowned church of the city- The Garrison Church to celebrate Christmas. People took prayers and blessings from the Jesus God and enjoyed all the rituals. Christmas Carol Songs stood as one of the most important pillars of holiday music including jingle bells, first Christmas, oh christmas tree were sung in the church. A great hustle-bustle was seen in the market as the people were engaged in the shopping Christmas belongings. Santas were seen in the market greeting the children ‘Happy Christmas’. They distributed chocolates and candies to the kids passing by them. Kids were also seen wearing Santa costumes. Kulbir Deol- owner of Hallmark said that the main attraction for the gifts this time was jewellery, candies and chocolates boxes. On this occasion a heavy rush of the people was experienced in the market which clearly indicates the excitement of the people towards the festival. A Cake shop owner Pawan Sharma said that different varieties of the cake including chocolate and almond cake, fruit cake, butterscotch cake, and blackforest cake were the chief ordered by the people.
