Hoteliers’ deputation call on STF for economic development of Jammu, Ladakh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 25: A joint deputation of Jammu hoteliers and other stake holders in pilgrimage and tourism in the region called on the Special Task Force set up by the Govt. of India to suggest means for economic development of Jammu and Ladakh regions. The deputation that comprised of Inderjeet Khajuria, president All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association, Kuldeep Wahi, president Hotel, Restaurant and Bar Association Jammu and Ravi Mahajan brought to the notice of the committee about gross discrimination against Jammu region on the front of tourism development. The team which submitted a detailed memorandum complained of total neglect of Jammu region in all the packages of relief, rehabilitation and revival of tourism Industry in the wake of militancy in the state. It demanded completion of the project of artificial lake in river Tawi within scheduled time of two years and making the same as a source of attraction for Vaishno Devi pilgrims. It also complained of the project of cable car laying between Mubarak Mandi and Bahu fort, MahaMaya Forest hanging fire for last ten years and demanded its early execution. They further demanded expansion of Manda Wildlife Sanctuary to make it a national wild park as announced by Govt. of India. The memorandum also demanded providing of infrastructure to various potential pilgrimage and tourist spots in the region or to bring these on the tourism map of the country. The memorandum in particular laid stress on development of Border Tourism at Suchet Garh on the pattern of Attari Wagah Border Tourism, with holding of ceremonial parade daily. It also demanded creation of Border Tourism belt upto Chamleyal Shrine.
