Katra: The future business hub of JK | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATRA Dec 25:- Hundreds of hotels, guest- houses and other business establishment have been erected by the people hailing not only from Katra but from other parts of the state. With the number of pilgrims increasing every year the government, semi- governmental organizations and other business houses have started eying Katra as the future business hub of the state. Pertinent to mention, the Shrine Board is already bracing up to host one crore devotees in a year by providing all sorts of amenities to them. In fact, the target would have been achieved had the Amarnath land row dispute or unrest in Kashmir valley in 2010 summer season not happened . Continuous influx of yatris in the holy town has made the state and central governments to speed up many of its developmental schemes in and around Katra. Katra Development Authority (KDA) is on cards and a Railway station is in the offing. A site has been approved for new bus stand as well. Other projects including water scheme, separate pony track project, gondola project from Bhawan to Bharion temple are in pipeline. The tourist inflow has increase manifold since 1980 when only 2 lakh pilgrims would visit the shrine. Now around 80 lakh pilgrims throng the shrine. The locals accuse the government of apathy. According to them, the Valley of Kashmir which is visited by 10 lakh tourists only attracts all the attention. The locals also see massive expansion of the holy town in the coming future.
