MBBS, PG seats in J&K being substantially enhanced: Chib

SRINAGAR, Dec 25: “The MBBS and Post Graduate seats in all Medical Colleges of Jammu and Kashmir state are being enhanced as the matter has been taken up with the central government for the same and necessary relevant documents with technical recommendations have been submitted to the concerned forum”, announced Minister for Medical Education R S Chib while addressing at the annual day function of SKIMS, Medical College at SKICC here today.
Minister of State for Health and Medical Education, Javed Ahmad Dar was accompanying him.
Speaking on the occasion RS Chib said that the government has initiated several measures for further strengthening the infrastructure in the medical sector by providing sufficient manpower and medical equipment so that the health institutions existing across the state provide better and latest medicare to the people.
The Minister said the SKIMS Medical College which has been established in 1998 is providing health facilities to thousands of people of various areas which has to some extent reduced pressure on other hospitals. He said the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is personally evincing keen interest towards the health sector as providing of treatment to the needy and deserving is a noble cause. He also appreciated the role of Dr. Farooq Abdullah for establishing SKIMS Medical College, Bemina.
Minister for Health and Medical Education, Javid Ahmad Dar, on the occasion, said that 6000 posts have been referred to the recruiting agencies and have been asked to speed up the process in this behalf. He said this would help provide better medical facilities to the people in remote areas of the state also.
The colourful cultural programme was also presented in the function.
Director SKIMS, Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar, Principal SKIMS Medical College, Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Meraj Ahmad Kakroo, renowned physician, Dr. G. Q. Alaqband, doctors and medical students were present on the occasion.
