Royal Bar incident unjustifiable, illegal, unfounded
Instead of booking trouble creaters, police arrest innocent bar staffers
12/25/2010 11:08:46 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu,Dec 25: The December 24 night incident outside Royal Bar at Gole Market, Gandhinagar, here, in which police misused their authority and erroneously booked three bar staffers in a "stab" case, which actually did not take place, is the glaring example of how police fabricate cases against innocent citizens.
The police acted like an unlawful authority in this case. Their action is unjustifiable, illegal and needs to be condemned in strongest words by one and all.
The police act of arresting three bar staffers -- Jagdish Singh, Ravi Kumar and Jaidev Singh alias Kaka -- and then labelling them as stabbers is totally wrong.
They were not involved in any stabbing case as no such incident took place outside the bar last night.
Everything seemed to be pre-planned as police wanted to defame the bar, its management and staffers, "all of whom are law-abiding citizens and not involved in any police case for the past 16 years when the bar was opened".
As per the police plan, two youth came to the bar at about 7.15 pm yesterday and had four drinks each. When they were asked to foot the bill, they asked Ravi and Kaka to come on the road outside as they felt suffocated inside due to the cigarette smoke.
The two bar men accompanied them. However, instead of making the payment of Rs 400, they started quarrelling with them. In the meantime, Jagdish also came out and asked the inebriated youth to pay the money and not create a scene as this would affect their business.
While they persuaded the two customers to pay the money, a police Gypsy appeared on the scene from nowhere and dumped the three bar staffers in it.
As the cops did not even touch the two drunken customers and let them leave the spot, it showed that the youth had been planted to create the trouble taking cover of which the bar staffers were wrongly booked.
"We oppose tooth and nail the unlawful police act and want the truth to come out," said a bar staffer.
He emphasised the need for a narco test of police and Ravi, Kaka and Jagdish for the truth to come out.
He said instead of enquiring into the matter, police had behaved in a most unprofessional manner by apprehending his three colleagues.
"We demand a probe into the incident by an honest police officer with a proven track record," he said.
