Winter schooling draws flak | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 26: Aghast at the decision of the government to keep the schools running during winter, the students have registered protest repeatedly since last week. Accusing politicians of endangering their lives in the garb of schooling, the students urged the government to reconsider the decision immediately. The Education minister issued an order cancelling winter vacations for higher classes. The government also sanctioned Rs 6 crore to ensure proper heating in the schools. However, most of the students have accused the government of inadequate arrangements. The students expressed surprise over the decision of the government. “The final examinations are over. We are in a new session. Cancellation of winter vacations, therefore, makes no sense”, said a student. Another student said the government, most probably, feels that the Valley will erupt again in the coming year. The matter has been taken to the court. The high court yesterday directed the officials to ensure proper heating ion the schools. The court also sought a detailed report by the end of December. Some quarters have also hailed the decision of the government. “If coaching classes can function during winter, why cannot the schools”, questioned an eminent educationist. Official sources said the government was watching the developments keenly. “A decision may be taken by the end of this month”, they said.
