J&K Gujjars offer support to Gurjar community in R’sthanSeek PM, Sonia’s intervention for social justice | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 26: Extending full support to community in Rajasthan in their ongoing struggle for grant of the Scheduled Tribes (ST) status, the Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday sought intervention of the Prime Minister of India and UPA chairperson to provide social justice to their marginalized group in Rajasthan. Pleading the issue through an appeal to Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi made through Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation-a frontal organization of Gujjars in the state, the community urged to grant ST status to Gujjars of Rajasthan by treating them equivalent to their community members who are already enlisted in Constitution of India as ST in J&K and Himachal Pardesh more than two decades ago. The secretary of the organisation, Javaid Rahi said the Gujjars residing in all 12 states of India are a part of a one Tribe so treat them equal and provide equal opportunities to them in country. He appealed all social groups, media, intellectuals and organizations working for Social Justice to suppressed classes in India to come forward and support Gujjars of Rajasthan in their struggle to achieve rights as tribal. The Tribal Foundation members urged the Union Government to take action on Justice Chopra Committee report forwarded by State Government of Rajasthan to Delhi in 2008 which clearly says that being a most backward community Gujjars of Rahasthan fulfilled all the requirements and formalities to declare as enlisted Tribal Group as that of Gujjars in HP and J&K. They further stated that the Gujjars of Rajasthan have been deprived and denied even the basic rights as tribe''.
