HC contempt notice to JU VC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 26: High court judge, Justice Sunil Hali has issued contempt notice to Jammu University (JU) vice- chancellor Varun Sahni and director colleges, Prof Rajesh Gupta. The court directive came in a contempt petition filed by Tilak Raj Kohli in which he stated that a report submitted by the Reasi district district and sessions judge to the high court as regards his B Ed college had not been implemented by the university authorities. In 2004, his college at Reasi had 150 students. That during 2009-2010 session, NOCs were granted to the college. However, the university granted them permission of only 60 male candidates. This order was challenged by the college owner in the high court which ordered the constitution of a commission of district and sessions judege, Reasi, and asked him to submit the report. During the inspection, the respondent No 3 was also present and he admitted that there was increase in the super structure as more construction had been raised. However, the same would be considered for the session 2010-2011. The single HC judge directed the university authorities to reconsider the matter and pass the order keeping in view the report of the district and sessions judge. The high court granted one month time to the non-applicants for doing the needful. Against this order, a Letters Patent Appeal was filed by the respondents in which the order was modified and six weeks had passed, but the order had not been implemented. After hearing the counsel for the applicant, Justice Hali issued a notice to non-applicants and also directed to submit the compliance report within 4 weeks. He also directed that if the needful was not done, the vice-chancellor and the director colleges would remain personally present in the court.
