12/26/2010 11:16:00 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 26: : Natrang presented Mani Madhukar’s hard hitting contemporary political satire ‘Chote Bade’ directed by Balwant Thakur at its studio theatre on last Sunday of the year 2010.
The play “Chote Bade” depicts the story of two unemployed dejected youth, their aspirations, pain and frustrations. Rejected by the system, both are confronting with a mental turmoil in switching to illegal ways of survival.
Living in fool’s paradise at one time they find more comfort but gradually they realize of befooling themselves. The whole lawlessness, sense of insecurity, crime, scams, loot and deteriorating quality of life is attributed to the failure of democratic institutions in the country.
The playwright has tried to expose the system in which there is no alternative left with the youth today to channelize their creative abilities in an environment where mediocrity is promoted at the cost of excellence.
Being honest, excellent, and intelligent is a disqualification in today’s order. They find that corrupt politicians and people in power have eaten up the vitals of the society and the talented aspiring youth of the day are left to be either a part of the corrupt system or to frustrate and suffer.
Frauds, cheaters, and sycophants have their way to lead. The play is a big satire on today’s power hungry politicians who are responsible for the poor state of affairs in India and indicates that the fast decline of faith in the system has reached to a blasting situation.
It aspires and prompts the youth to fight it out and save the nation from the clutches of these vultures before it deteriorates further.
Mohammad Yaseen played as Chote whereas Rohit Verma did the role of Bade. Both were able to evoke the emotional response of the audience as they successfully portrayed the inner turmoil of the youth today.
Such plays when performed in an intimate style do leave lot of scope for the actors to demonstrate best of their acting skills. The lights of the play were designed by Mohit Sharma and sound effects were visualized and executed by Rahul Singh. The show was coordinated by Neeraj Kant and Sumeet Sharma did the presentations.
