Art 370 hits at principles of constitution: Gupta
12/27/2010 11:05:17 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 27: Leader of BJP legislator’s party, Chaman Lal Gupta today said Article 370 was against the basic principles of the Indian constitution. “The constitution confers equal rights for all irrespective of their religion, caste or creed”, he made clear.
Many nationalists, he said, expressed concern when this Article was being incorporated in the Constitution. “Even Muslim patriot Moulana Hasart Mohani opposed it”, he said.
“But then they were pacified by the Prime Minister by stating that it was a temporary provision. But it was unfortunate that this obnoxious provision still exists even after over 60 years and several sick minds are pleading for secessionism and semi-secessionism in the garb of this temporary provision”, he said.
Apparantly referring to PDP patron, Mufti Muhammad Sayed, Gupta said: “Vajpayee through out his great political career never compromised on the issue of unity and integrity of the country. No one else than Shri Vajpayee had pleaded and worked for removal of all kinds of discrimination and separate status for any part of the country including Kashmir because of religion. In fact when Dr. Shayama Prashad Mukerji was arrested for entering in Jammu and Kashmir without permit, the reins of the movement for Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan and Ek Pradhan were entrusted to Shri Vajpayee who always worked for unity and integrity of the country. His speeches on this issue in the Parliament are remarkable witness to the fact of the history”, he said.
Gupta further said that though the abrogation of Article 370 was not on the Agenda of the NDA but it was always there in the agenda of BJP. “And the NDA too, never allowed anybody to proceed with their separatist and semi-separatist moves. The outright rejection of the resolution of the NC led Government of the State, was the biggest proof of it”, he said.
He explained that the so-called separate status of Jammu and Kashmir has caused more harm to the people of this State than any good. “The protagonists of the Article 370, Autonomy and Self Rule should explain that how the Indian Constitution could be bad for a few lakh Kashmiris when it is good for over 120 crores of other Indians including crores of Muslims.
Prof. Gupta asked the activists to expose the follies of the Congress and to work for defeat of the designs of infected by communalism.
