Govt reluctant to issue passports to moderate separatists! | | | EARLY TIMES TREPORT Jammu, Dec 27 :-Separatists feel intrigued over the way the Government of India has been distinguishing one from the other as far as issuance of the passports is concerned. Reports said that there are a number of separatists, including chairman APHC,Molvi Umar Farooq, who possess passports and get valid travel documents whenever they plan to go out of the country.. Against this others including Syed Ali Geelani,Prof.Abdul Gani Bhat, Molvi Abbas Ansari,Shabir Ahmed Shah and 12 more separatists have either been denied passports or their passports have been impounded. In some cases the passports have not been renewed. According to these reports, Prof.Bhat has been pleading for the renewal of his passport for the last two years but his efforts are yet to bear fruit. He wanted to travel to Muzaffarabad and deliver some academic lecturers to the student community in the University of Azad Kashmir. .He is visiting professor in the same university which had awarded him Doctorate of literature several years ago. Bhat, if given the passport and the visa, would visit Pakistan and occupied Kashmir where besides lecturing students he could interact with political leaders for the purpose of resolving the tension between India and Pakistan which was required for settling the Kashmir issue. In the absence of passport Molvi Ansari could not visit Pakistan where a close relation had passed away two years ago. The Maulana has a number of close relations in Pakistan and occupied Kashmir who have been pressing him to visit them for a week or so. He too had requested the concerned authorities for the issuance of the passport and the visa but all his efforts have not borne any fruit. New Delhi’s reluctance to renew passports of Bhat and Ansari have evoked criticism. Both belong to the moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference. If Mirwaiz has a passport, why are Bhat and Ansari denied the important documents? This question haunts their supporters. The Mirwaiz hardened his stand during this year’s agitation. What happens to his passport remains to be seen.
