Court awards 2 yrs imprisonment to patwari in corruption case | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 28; Special judge anti-corruption, Jammu, A K Koul today awarded two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 to patwari Chuni Lal in a case of corruption which was registered against him by state vigilance organisation (SV) when he was posted at Vijaypur. According to the SVO case, the accused, as patwari halqa Vijaypur, had demanded and accepted Rs 10,000 as bribe from complainant for issuance of revenue record of his land at Vijaypur. When despite repeated requests the patwari did not give him the record, the complainant approached SVO and lodged a complaint against him. Acting on the complaint, the SVO laid a trap and caught Chuni Lal red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 10,000. After completion of investigation in the case, the challan was presented in the court in 2004. Special judge anti-corruption, Jammu, A K Koul, after hearing counsels of both sides, observed that there was no option but to hold the accused guilty of commission of offence under section 5(2) read with 5(1) (d) prevention of corruption act and section 161 of RPC. With this observation, the court awarded him an imprisonment for a period of one year, besides a fine of Rs 10,000.
