| 2 militants among 3 killed | | |
Srinagar, November 7 A police constable was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Zachaldara Handwara, while as one militant was killed during encounter at Kupwara and Doda. Meanwhile a timber smuggler was injured during a firing incident at Shopian and his horse died on spot. A student was shot at in Sopore township. A group of unidentified persons, according to reports reaching here, barged into the house of police constable Ab Rashid Mir bearing no:196/H S/O Mohd Yousuf at Zachaldara Handwara and dragged him out from his house at gun point on Tuesday evening. They fired bullets on police constable and he was killed on spot. He was presently posted at Police Post Chogul Handwara. However reasons of his killing could not be ascertained. The troopers of 14 grandiers engaged into an encounter with militants at Chowkibal Rangwar Kupwara during which one unidentified militant was killed and recovery of a rifle, 3 magzines, 15 rounds and two grenades from his possession is being claimed. Another militant identified as Shabir ahmed alias Abrar owing allegiance to Harkat-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit was killed during an encounter with army at Badhi Bharat Gandoh Doda. Meanwhile troopers of 44 RR during a crackdown in village Gigloora Shopian mistook a group of timber smugglers as militants and fired upon them. Consquently a timber smuggler Zaffar ahmed Khan S/O Mohd Yousuf was crtically injured, while as his horse was killed on spot. However police said that militants and troopers had an exchange of fire during the crackdown during which timber smuggler was injured. A group of unidentified persons fired bullets on a class XII student Mohd Shafi Chopan S/O Khazir Mohd at Mundji sopore and injured him.
