Govt to approach centre for food processing parks
12/29/2010 8:57:37 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 29 :-Jammu and Kashmir Government plans to approach the Ministry of food processing industries for including the state in its major national level scheme of setting up mega food parks in the country.
Official sources said that the Ministry has decided to set up mega food parks in the country during the 11th five year plan. They said that the ministry has decided to provide adequate infrastructure for food processing. The ministry hopes that plan will encourage fresh investment in the food processing sector which could increase employment avenues.
Each of the mega food parks will have a central processing centre where food processing units would be established and supported by common infrastructure and farm level facilities in the form of collection centres and primary processing centres and other need based infrastructure. The Ministry will prefer those areas for the mega food processing parks where the raw material was available in abundance.
Official sources said that Jammu and Kashmir state could provide adequate raw material for the food processing parks. They said the Government would make suitable land available for the parks and since the state was considered as a difficult area, the state Government was prepared to invest 25 per cent on the project if the centre agreed to provide one time capital grant support to the tune of 75 per cent of the total cost of the project.
In this connection the state Government will invite proposals from private entrepreneurs willing to invest in the project. After receiving response from the private entrepreneurs the state Government would submit its final report to the Union Ministry of food processing.
Government sources said that setting up food processing parks could help the state authorities in tackling the problem of unemployment to some extent. It will also promote smaller ancillary units to come up in the state that could provide raw material required in the processing units
