BJP aghast over Congress stand on Art 370
12/29/2010 8:58:24 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 29: The BJP has taken strong exception to Congress party’s criticism to its stand on abrogation of Article 370. The Congress had asked BJP as to why the said Article was not abrogated when BJP was in power at the entre.
The State Spokesperson of BJP , Advocate Ramesh Arora said: “It appears that there is no law knowing person or person with minimum legal knowledge in the Congress. The NDA was not having sufficient numbers in both houses of parliament to abolish article-370 and BJP never remained in power in Jammu and Kashmir. The state government has to recommend its abolition with 2/3rd majority.”
He further said: “So far as Article-371 is concerned BJP feels that it is not an article which promotes separatist tendencies, where as under article-370, we have separate constitution and flag and this encourages the separatists. Art Article 371 gives only more power to states.”
Arora said stand of Congress about extension of amendment made in Article 73rd of the constitution be made applicable in state of J&K before panchayat elections is also demand of BJP.
“Example given over autonomy by Congress leaders in support of their stand over extension of more power to panchayat and local bodies is also not justifiable. Infact, they should have condemned the autonomy which leads towards PDP’s self-rule and ultimately towards Azadi of separatists.”
The Congress should clear its stand over AFSPA withdrawal and over discrimination done with Jammu during their regime, he said.
