The rain which started on Wednesday evening continues to fall throughout the day in Jammu city and other parts of the region due to which the normal life remained affected. It was raining cats and dogs which forced the people to remain indoors so as to protect them from downpour and biting cold as the temperature dipped to about 15 Degree Celsius. The snowfall took place at famous hill resort of Patnitop, Trikuta hills in mountainous Reasi district and both sides of Jawahar Tunnel near Banihal. According to the official reports, rains will continue to pour for the next 48 hours as strong Western Disturbance (WD) has hit the region and the temperature may further dip in next few days. "There will be rainfall in the region during next 24 hours as the strong Western Disturbance is passing over Jammu and Kashmir", said a senior weather scientist. He said that they are expecting more rainfall in plains and snow in higher reaches in next few days, which will further decrease the maximum and minimum temperature in the state. "While present conditions are good for the farming community, but people will have to bear the brunt of severe cold wave", said the scientist. It is important to mention here that Jammu and Kashmir was facing dry spell since past few weeks, affecting not only the farming community but giving rise to diseases related to cold. With today's heavy rainfall and snowfall in hilly areas it seems that it will deteriorate further in coming days," a Jammuite said. Due to the prevailing climatic conditions the Jammu -Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic due to snowfall in several parts of Jammu as well as Kashmir Valley which have been covered with a blanket of snow. Hundreds of vehicles and trucks have been stranded on highway due to fresh snowfall at Patnitop and both sides of Jawahar Tunnel.
