J&K to empower Numberdars, Chowkidars: Chib | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 31: Jammu and Kashmir government is committed to empower and uplift living standard of Numberdars and Chowkidars since it is the policy of central government led by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to strengthen rural institutions. This was stated by Minister for Medical Education R. S. Chib while interacting with a deputation of Numberdars and Chowkidars who called on him today. Chib said that Chief Minister and Revenue Minister are taking keen interest in solving problems of their fraternity, adding that many of their demands are already under consideration. Deputation of Numberdars and Chowkidars led state presidents Bashir Ahmad Teli and Mohammad Yousuf Shah respectively demanded graded salary for Numberdars and Chowkidars alongside seeking representation in block, district development boards and Legislative Council. They also demanded that on the death of a Numberdar, his son should take over the position and creation of communication centres in rural areas under the supervision of numberdars on the pattern of Khidmat centres. Deputation said that Numberdar remains busy throughout his life strengthening bonds between people and the government. They said that Numberdar plays vital role in maintaining peace and tranquility in villages during difficult times. Deputation comprised of Abdul Rashid, Ghulam Mohammad Dengroo, Abdul Ahad Dar, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Mohammad Saleem Mir, Jalaludin Bhat, Mohammad Ismail Dar and Mushtaq Ahmad.
