Thousands throng holy Vaishnodevi shrine | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 31: Even as the holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi in Trikuta hills of Katra today received the season's first snowfall, pilgrims made a beeline to the shrine to pay obeisance on first day of the New Year 2011. Trikuta hills and nearby region received eight inches of season's first snow, official sources said. Despite the snowfall, over 30,000 pilgrims were on their way to the cave shrine to pay their obeisance on New Year day, the sources added. Sources said braving the chill, pilgrims were heard shouting hymns and moving towards Bhawan from Katra, the base camp of the shrine.Meanwhile, Mughal road, connecting Shopian in Kashmir with Poonch in Jammu region was today closed following heavy snowfall. Pir Ki Gali area received maximum snowfall with six feet of snow, the sources added. |
