| Bus driver gets gallantry police medal | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 1: For the first time in the history of J&K police commendations, a civilian has been honoured with police Medal for saving the lives of scores of passengers during a terrorist attack on a bus in Rajouri district.
In addition, 175 policemen were awarded DGP Commendation Medals and certificates.
In the first ever case in which a civilian was honoured in Jammu and Kashmir, Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda awarded DGP Commendation Medal, certificate and cash award to bus driver P Singh, a police official said. Singh had saved the lives of scores of passengers trapped in a terrorist attack at Baigo Nar, Thanamandi Rajouri in July this year.
Khoda also awarded the DGP Commendation Medals and Certificates to 175 officers and jawans of Jammu and Kashmir police. The medals and certificates have been awarded to them in recognition of their meritorious services and hard work during the year 2010.
The awardees include 13 Superintendents of Police, 2 Chief Prosecuting Officers, 15 Deputy Superintendents of Police, one Senior Prosecuting Officer, one Prosecuting Officer, 17 Inspectors, 22 Sub-Inspectors, 13 Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 34 Head Constables, 51 Constables and six others. The Superintendent of Police, who have been awarded are Keshav Ram, Bhim Sen Tuti, Fareed Ahmad Khan, Farooq Kirmani, Altaf Ahmad Khan, Zubair Ahmad Khan, Rashmi Wazir, Firdous Iqbal, Abdul Wahid Shah, Joginder Singh, Rajinder Kumar Gupta, R K Munshi and Swarn Singh Kotwal.
The awardees belonging to Prosecution Wing of J&K Police are Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar, Gowher Hussain Mir, Ashish Rathore and Rajesh Khajuria. Besides this, 19 SPOs and 26 personnel of other security forces deployed in Jammu and Kashmir have been awarded DGP Medals and Certificates for their meritorious and exemplary services during the
year.
