Efforts afoot to develop Akhnoor on Laxman-Jhoola pattern: Sham

JAMMU, JAN 01- Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma has said that Akhnoor will be developed as Model Town to restore its pristine glory. He said the town has rich heritage background and all out efforts will be made to bring the town on the national tourist map.
The Minister was addressing a mammoth public meeting at Akhnoor, organized by the youth in connection with the celebrations of New Year.
Listing the development initiatives taken by the coalition government during the past two year, the Minister said that massive development has taken place in Akhnoor area and people have acknowledged the change on ground. He said that main focus has been given on the upgradation of health, education, road connectivity and power sectors, which have primary importance in the overall development.

In view of the religious sanctity of River Chenab, which is also known as Chanderbaga Nadhi, Sharma said that right bank of the river will further be beautified for the facilities of thousands of pilgrim tourists who visit the place from different parts of the country to immerse the ashes of their forefathers and observe the rituals. Government is contemplating to develop the site on the pattern of Ganga and Laxman Jhoola to attract maximum number of pilgrim tourists in the area, he maintained.
Prominent among those addressed the gathering included, Vice Chairman, OBC Advisory Board, Kuldeep Verma, Vice Chairperson, Social Welfare Advisory Board, Khem Lata Wakhloo, former Minister Gurmukh Singh, Youth President, JKPCC, Shoaib Lone and Th. Hari Singh.
