JKAC criticizes centre for appointing Mattoo as VC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 1: Jammu and Kashmir Awami Congress (JKAC) has criticized the Government of India, particularly HRD Ministry for appointing Prof Amitabh Mattoo as Vice Chancellor of Central University Jammu, in utter disregard of the strong opposition to the same by the people of Jammu, including the student community and the university scholars. Opposing the move of appointment of Amitabh Mattoo as Vice Chancellor of the Jammu Central University, a meeting of Jammu and Kashmir Awami Congress (JKAC) held here today under the chairmanship of its President Sat Pal Sharma Kranti resolved to support and actively participate in any agitation against the appointment of Mattoo as VC CU Jammu, which betrays the Government of India’s total disregard to the sentiments of Jammu people. The meeting observed that the very fact that the President of India has put a rider on applying her assent to the appointment of Prof Mattoo as VC CU Jammu, putting the onus on the HRD Ministry for any law and order created as a result of strong opposition by the people of Jammu against Mattoo’s appointment as such, clearly indicates that Prof. Mattoo as VC will be a liability for the Government and will pose threat to the law and order in Jammu. Rubbishing the viewpoint of some self styled leaders of Jammu, who have hailed the appointment of Mattoo as VC Central University Jammu and listed his so called achievements as VC Jammu University for six years, Awami Congress has stated that Professor Mattoo does not fulfill the requisite qualifications for being the VC of the University as per the UGC guidelines. He does not have an experience of ten years as a Professor in a university or having served at an equivalent position. The six year tenure of Prof. Mattoo as VC Jammu University witnessed administrative as well as financial irregularities in the university. As per press reports Prof Amitabh Mattoo, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu and presently Professor of Disarmament Studies at the School of International Studies at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi, took over as the Vice Chancellor of the newly established Jammu Central University on Friday.
