| Manjit seeks amendment in Panchayati Raj Act | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 1: Senior Congress leader and former Minister Manjit Singh has demanded amendment in State Panchayati Raj act. He said if government is serious enough to give full powers to the elected panchayats and rights to the elected panchayat
representatives, it should first extend 73rd amendment of Indian constitution in J&K otherwise these panchayat election would be just an eye wash for the masses.
Manjeet was addressing a meeting of Congress workers held at Vijaypur today.
In the monthly meeting a large number of Congressmen participated from
different panchayat halqas.
In the meeting, Congress leader Dr. Satpal, Congress Block president Capt Amarnath Bhatti, Distt Vice president Babal Gupta, Riaz Maliq, Ch. Salim, Hashmat Ali, Ex. Sarpanch Bachan Singh, Goutam Singh, Rikhi Singh etc also expressed their views and urged the party workers to remain united and prepare themselves for the forthcoming panchayat elections.
