Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan1; With political uncertainty looming large over Kashmir, the activists of various mainstream political parties other than Congress and NC are fighting back to wall to keep their identity intact and maintain their prestige.
The highhandedness of ruling alliance activists and separatists has made the life of the political activists who are attached with such national parties that have no political base in Kashmir uncertain. This situation prevailing in the Valley for over last two decades now. And in the pursuit of their better future and security the political activists in Kashmir started shifting their loyalties from one organization to another.
According to sources the main reason of joining some main stream political parties by the political activists in the Valley was to seek their help in getting security cover to protect themselves from terrorists threat who had made them on their target.
Sources said this was the reason that a large number of political activists from Valley who had either defected from Congress or National Conference (NC) and also wanted to make equidistance from separatists joined the Janata Dal, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Lok Jashakti Party etc.
However after these parties were ousted from power at New Delhi, the worries increased for their political activists in the Valley who from one side were ditched by the ruling alliance and on the other hand were facing constant threat from terrorists for their proximity to national parties, sources added.
Sources said hundreds of political activists were eliminated over the years by the terrorists. This could be the main reason that the Kashmir Unit of JDS’s decision to merge with BJP. As the Party has become irrelevant at National level too remaining confined to Karnataka only, the Kashmir unit of the Party had lost its total relevance and its workers were facing threat after the withdrawal of security by the Government, sources added.
Sources said what could have been the reasons given by the Kashmir unit head of the Party, Mr Wani while joining BJP here yesterday, the security of the Party workers was the main cause of concern for them. The party activists as well as Mr Wani made it clear during the press conference yesterday that they hope after joining the Party the security concerns of the political activists will be addressed.
Mr Wani also did not spare the ruling alliance and accused it for the present mess in the Valley. He said the NC was mainly responsible for present turmoil in the Valley and the party has totally failed to fulfill its poll promises. There is total disenchantment among the masses against NC and they are also fed up with Hurriyat.`` Under the circumstances we fell BJP was the only political alternative which can address our security concerns of our workers’’, he added.
