Early times report
JAMMU, Jan 02: Young Rovers and Jammu and Kashmir Police-B won their respective matches to advance into the next round of the ongoing 5th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament at GGM Science College ground, here today.
While Young Rovers underwent tense moment before they emerged winners 4-2 in tie-breaker, J&K Police had easy sailing in the first round tie.
Earlier, in the first match of the day, Young Rovers trounced Sainik Colony Club in tie breakers. In the stipulated time both sides failed to score any goal thereby making it a barren 70-minute game in the stipulated time.
However, in the tie-breaker, Young Rovers proved to be better side with all the four penality kicks converted into goals by the star strikers. Rahul Kumar, Vishal Heer, Ankush and Jyoti Parkash scored for the winners while Harmohinder Singh and Rashpal Singh were successful from Sainik Colony. Vivek Choudhary and Mohinder Singh missed the target.
Meanwhile, in the second match of the day, J&K Police registered an impressive 4-0 win over Param FC. Leading by two goals in the first half, Police further improved their score adding two more goals.
Zulfikar Ahmed opened the account in 28th minute, followed by another goal that came two minutes later through Manzoor Ahmed, who struck in the 30th. Later, Tanvir Hussain (42nd) and Rameez Ahmad (57th) netted the ball to make it a one-sided affair.
However, equally good on the field, Param FC enjoyed the crowd support for being energetic throughout. The young side never gave up and kept on fighting till the last minute of the game. The only weak point the Param FC had was their poor finishing.
Today’s second match was officiated by Suresh Gupta (centre), Rajib Deb, Kamal Kumar and Vijay Kumar (assistant referees).
FIXTURE: Kathua Football Club shall take on Young Hero at 1 pm; Young Rovers to face Food and Supplies at 2.30 pm tomorrow.
