Fear of landslides haunts Katra people | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATRA Jan 02:- The fear of landslides haunts hotels, guest houses, shops and police residential quarters along bus stand and Banganga road in the holy Katra town. The foundations of a number of structures have been raised on a hillock which produces massive landslides during downpour. Number of devotees stay in these hotels. The locals fear a catastrophe incase preventive measures are not taken now. A resident, Kuldeep Dubey said an old stair-way was washed away by a massive landslide. “The waste from drains of all the structures goes into the hillock. This compounds the problem”, he said. at the other end, “Construction of a tunnel is going on and the hillock, locals fear, cannot withstand the pressure for long”, cautioned hotelier Bal Krishan Purohit. A police officer fears damage to the police residential quarters. Some quarters, he said, has started sinking. The DDC Reasi, Panduranga K Pole, however, has some good news. “Heavy blocks are being set up in position to prevent exfoliation. The blocks will give additional strength to the hillock.
