Ghani cautions Delhi against misreading present lull | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu,Jan 2 :- Senior Hurriyat leader, professor Abdul Ghani Bhat has cautioned New Delhi against misreading the present lull. “It should not be treated as a sign of peace. If New Delhi does not budge from its stand, a major storm may follow the present lull”, he made clear. In an interview with KIP, said the Hurriyat Conference was hopeful of positive outcome of the on-going track-two diplomacy involving retired senior officers of the foreign ministries of India and Pakistan for hammering out some solution for the Kashmir issue. Bhat, said that once the talks initiated at the track-two level start making some progress, both New Delhi and Islamabad may realise the importance and the need for involving the Kashmiri separatists in the process of dialogue for finding a durable and permanent solution to the Kashmir issue. In reply to a question Bhat said that the APHC has been always in favour of the dialogue process between Delhi and the separatists or between India and Pakistan."We are for dialogue even if Delhi has adopted strange attitude towards our demand for an amicable settlement of the issue,"Bhat said. Bhat blamed New Delhi for the delay in the resumption of dialogue with the Kashmiri separatists. He said since 2006 the channels of dialogue "with us" stand choked and Delhi is responsible for it. On Hurriyat’s preconditions for resumption of talks, Bhat said that as far as "our preconditions are concerned there is nothing serious about them." Explaining it he said that "our demand for release of the detained people, withdrawal of the AFSPA and the troops from within the civilian areas was genuine and the Government should have no problem in conceding it." He said he had renewed his plea for the resumption of the Delhi-separatists and India-Pakistan dialogue only in the interest of peace in south Asian region. “There can never be an escape from talks and it would be better for both Islamabad and New Delhi if they move a step or two for removing the blocks in the channels of dialogue”, he said.
