EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 2 : Natrang welcomed the New Year with the performance of one of the most celebrated play ‘Tajbeez’ in Urdu. The play is based on the world famous Russian Classic ‘The Marriage Proposal’ written by Anton Chekov. The play was adapted and directed by Balwant Thakur.
The story of the play revolves around Shohab, a long-time neighbor of Rehmat Mirza, who has come to propose Rehmat’s 25-year-old daughter, Sania. After he has asked and received joyful permission to marry Sania, she is invited into the room, and he tries to convey to her the proposal. Shohab is a hypochondriac, and, while trying to make clear
his reasons for being there, he gets into arguments with Sania about a disputed piece of land and ends up having palpitations and a numb leg. After her father notices they are arguing, he joins in, and then throws Shohab out of the house. Rehmat Mirza then tells his daughter that Shohab was about to propose, and at this news she immediately
starts "dying" and screams for her father to bring him back. He does, and Sania and Shohab get into a second big argument, this time about the superiority of their respective dogs. Shohab collapses and they fear he's died. However, after a few minutes he regains consciousness, and Rehmat forces him and his daughter to accept the proposal by
asking them to hold the hands of eachother. Immediately following this, the couple get into yet another argument.
Rohit Verma as ‘Sohaib’ and Mohit Sharma as ‘Rehmat’ demonstrated prefect timings and body language which was required in this farcical comedy. Rajani Bhatti as ‘Sania’ was at her best. Mohd. Yaseen as ‘Saleema’ provided an added treat. Lights were operated by Rahul Singh. The show was coordinated by Neeraj Kant. Sumeet Sharma did the presentations.
