Record number of pilgrims visit Vaishno Devi in 2010

JAMMU Jan 02: Over 87.5 lakh devotees have visited the Vaishno Devi shrine located at Trikuta hills in Jammu and Kashmir in 2010, the highest in the past two decades.
"The pilgrimage to Mata Vaishnodevi has set a new milestone in 2010 with a record number of 87,49,326 lakh pilgrims visiting the cave shrine. The number has broken the previous record of 82,34,896 in 2009," Additional Chief Executive Officer of Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board Mandeep K Bandari told here.
"SMVSB is expecting one crore pilgrims in the next few years," he said.
In 2008, as many as 67,92,223 pilgrims visited the shrine, while it was 74.17 lakh in 2007 and 69.5 lakh in 2006.
