Shabir inspects work on Rs 4.85 cr forest protection complex | ‘Govt keen to strengthen FPF’ | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Reasi, January 2: Minister of State for Forests and Power, Shabir Ahmed Khan inspected pace of work on the Forest Protection Force (FPF), Gamma Unit complex here today and took stock of other activities of the enforcement wing. The Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Director FPF Jugal Kishore and DFO Forest Division, Reasi, Pritpal Singh. The Minister was apprised that the Rs 4.85 crore complex on its completion will have office building, four barracks for Forest Protection Guards, besides other necessary facilities for the personnel. He was further told that Rs 58 lakh is being spent on the building during the current fiscal , whereas the laying of slab on the office building and one forest guard barrack has been completed. Giving details about the working of the Reasi Forest Protection Unit, the authorities informed the minister that from March 2010 since the establishment of the unit, the forest force personnel has seized 12 thousand cft illegal timber from the smugglers, besides evicting 65 kanal forest land from the encroachers. Interacting with the FPF personnel, the Minister asked them to work sincerely towards the preservation of the state’s green gold and tighten noose around the smugglers and other vested interest who are plundering the forests for their petty gains.
