Promotion of Dogri language, culture will help maintain communal harmony: Chib

JAMMU, JAN 02: Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports R. S. Chib Sunday said that the Government will make all efforts to safeguard and promote Dogri literature, art and culture.
The Minister was speaking at a felicitation function organized by the Duggar Munch on the eve of Dogri Bhasha Mannata Dewas at K. L. Sehgal Hall, Jammu.
“Dogri language and culture is a binding force that has helped in maintaining communal harmony among its speakers spread across many regions of the state”, he said.
Eminent journalist and social activist Sohail Kazami was felicitated with 2010 award for his contribution in the field of journalism and social service. The chief guest R. S.Chib presented the citation to Sohail Kazmi.
Speaking on the occasion, Chib said that Dogri being a rich language and spoken by majority of population in the state was included in the 8th schedule of the constitution by the tireless efforts and initiatives taken by people who love their language and culture, adding that the contribution made by Dr. Karan Singh in highlighting the issue of safeguarding Dogri language in the Parliament cannot be forgotten.
Chib said that Duggar Munch from last 25 years has selflessly served to promote Dogri language and culture and it was because of the struggle by such organizations Dogri language was finally included in 8th schedule of constitution in 2003.
Congratulating Sohail Kazmi on receiving the award, Chib said that he has been instrumental in promoting communal harmony and has served to bridge gaps between various communities through his efforts both in media and as a social worker.
The felicitation function besides others was attended by President Duggar Munch and Sahetya Academy Award Winner, Mohan Singh, social activist, Ram Sudhir, S. S. Shingari, Advocate S. S. Anand, Additional Secretary Cultural Academy Surita Bakshi.
