3 killed, 22 hurt as minibus falls into Chenab

DODA, Jan 2: Three persons were today killed and 21 others wounded, some of them critically, after a minibus in which they were travelling skidded off the road and plunged into Chenab river at Kararra near Nai Basti army camp here.
The ill-fated minibus was on its way from Prem Nagar to Doda. Police sources said the tragedy struck at about 8.30 am when the minibus driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve due to thick fog. Army jawans and locals rescued the passengers and evacuated them to the district hospital here.
Sources said while Thakur Singh, son of Kunj Lal of Parnot and Hari Ram, son of Rasila Ram of Malwana were declared brought dead by the doctors, Ghulam Nabi, son of Mohammad Sikandar of Prem Nagar, died while being airlifted to the GMC hospital, Jammu.Ten seriously wounded people were airlifted to the GMC hospital.
They were identified as Ram Rattan, son of Thakur Lal of Shibnot, Raja Ram, son of Hari Lal of Malwana, Tahir Hussain, son of Mohammad Shafi Tantray of Pranu, Bal Krishan (Fouji), son of Mohan Lal of chirala, Dharam Vir of Jatheli, his father Vinod Kumar, Ghulam Qadir, son of Jumma Bhat of Darra, Anju Devi, wife of Raja Ram of Brampura Gundna, Abdul Lateef, son of Mohammad Subhan, incharge principal, government higher secondary school, Jatheli, and Irshad Ahmed, son of Abdul Aziz of Shounsh Jatheli. Eleven of those undergoing treatment at the district hospital here were identified as Ghulam Hassan, son of Habibullah of Jatheli Shawl, Ghulam Qadir, son of Jamal Bhat of Darra, Surinder Singh, son of Daya Krishan of Parnot, Harvinder Kumar, son of Munshi Ram of Dehrot, Omkar Singh, son of Sher Chand of Shiva, Soal Singh, son of Nath Ram of Darra, Mangta Nayak, son of Noora of Jatheli, Pushvinder
Singh, son of Radha Krishan of Chaksu Manthali, Suraj, son of Lakhmi Chand of Pathan, Parveen Kumar, son of Punjab Singh of Pathan and Nazir, son of Abdul Razzak of Parnot. Police had registered a case in this connection.
