PDP's raises concern over K issue again, party's new year resolution: Channelise public opinion for solution of 'problem' | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 2 : Notwithstanding its consistent concern over the issues of local governance, NC led coalition's functioning and a host of matters related to general masses, the People's Democratic Party, J&K's largest opposition party has raised its voice and concern once again over resolution of Kashmir issue. More than a mere statment, the party has cautioned that the 'future of entire region would be jeopardised if Kashmir issue was put in cold storage'.The loud call has been made by none other than the only stalwart in the party, Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. There is no denying the fact that a politician of Mufti's stature has a thorough understanding and assessment of the dynamics of Kashmir issue. One also appreciates his volume of concern over the matter. The party, rightly so has been raising concern over key issues on account of the fact it is the second largest party in terms of number of MLAs in the state and that it has a very 'crucial' role to play. In terms of their genuine role as opposition, the party has in fact been adopting harsh stands against the state as well as the Centre. This can be guaged in context of certain vital decisions taken in the past which have hit the government at the core. Apart from grilling the NC led coalition government over its countless failures, the PDP has time and again been raising the key political matters particularly the delay in resolving the Kashmir issue. And in this sense, Mufti Sayeed as a visionary and political stalwart has been emphasising on resumption of stalled dialogue between India and Pakistan. The PDP Patron is rightly so trying to remind both the governments the great yearning among the people of both the nations and people of J&K in particular, for whom the party started many steps during its tenure in the power shared with Congress until 2008. According to Mufti the dialogue process has to be taken forward as 'the interests and stakes of one and a half billion people cannot be held hostage to the routine political developments within the democratic structures of the two countries'. Jammu & Kashmir being the main victim of hostility has obviously the highest stakes in the peace process that had been initiated in 2003, he reminds in the statement given today recalling that the peace process that was carried forward with speed and substance till 2008 had almost been reversed with the taking over of the present dispensation in the state. What sounds more interesting and well meaning stance of PDP is that the high command has chosen to take it up as a new year resolution to channelize public opinion in all regions of the state for solution of Kashmir problem, strengthening of democratic institutions and processes and introducing accountability in governance. The party as a matter of new year resolution is therefore all set to take on the ruling dispensation for its wrong policies, failures over key matters of governance and many more issues related to public welfare as well. In the words of Mufti , the party will forcefully use its democratic space to force the government into providing amenities and revive the developmental process that has almost been abandoned and at the same time mobilising public opinion in all the three regions for resolution of Kashmir issue. It will go well for the party that apart from reminding the governments through mere statements, it raises the voice vehemently on the floor of the Assembly in coming Budget session too. |
