SI among 10 hurt in clash over land dispute | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 2 : For resisting the alleged move of some people to encroach upon a piece of land at Khiadian in Pouni near here today, a police Sub-Inspector (SI) and his friend were attacked and wounded. In retaliatory action, eight alleged encroachers were also injured, police sources said. Sources said some Gujjars allegedly encroached upon forest land at Khiadian, which was being used by local youth as a play ground. The Gujjars also raised the barbed wire fencing around the land. Some youth opposed it and tried to cut the wire, the sources added. Sources said while the youth were cutting the wire, a group of Gujjars appeared on the scene and attacked them with lathis. In the attack, SI Somesh Padha and his friend Vishwajit, both residents of Khiadian, sustained injuries on faces and other body parts. Padha is at present posted with special operation group of police. In the retaliatory action, six alleged encroachers were also injured. Sources identified them as Fakir Ahmed, Noor Illahai, Shahid Ali, Saif Ali, Fattu, Mohammad Shafi, Fareed Ahmed and Samer Ahmed. All the injured were hospitalised. Police had registered a case in this connection. |
