| 5th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament | | Young Hero, Food and Supplies enter pre-quarters | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, January 3: Young Hero and Food and Supplies XI today sailed into the third round of pre-quarterfinals of the 5th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament, organised by All J&K Christian Welfare Association at GGM Science College ground, here.
In the first match of the day, Young Hero blanked Kathua Football Club 4-0. Chandan brought in the first blood striking in the eighth minute. Second goal was scored by Sanjeev Singh in the 29th minute to give his a 2-0 lead.
Later, after the drinks, Sanjeev netted yet another goal in the 52nd minute, followed by Rahul Ghai, who struck in the 69th minute to make it a big 4-0 win for the team. This match was officiated by Saudagar Mattoo (centre), David, Kamal and Fiestus Sotra.
Meanwhile, the department side of Food and Supplies were kept busy by the budding footballers of Young Rovers before they lost 2-1. One-up in the first half, Food and Supplies failed to break the strong defence line of young men in blue.
Earlier, Young Rovers took the first lead when Gulshan Kumar netted the ball in the 10th minute. But the lead was soon equalized by Omar Ahmed in the 15th minute. The professionals went ahead with Irfan Ahmed striking in the 23rd minute.
It was followed by a dilly dallying battle from both sides. Except for a last minute sure goal chance missed by Omar, Food and Supplies hardly got any opportunity to improve their tally. This match was officiated by Rajib Dev (centre), Rakesh Kumar, Vijay Kumar and Ricky Kumar (assistant referees).
FIXTURE: Mussa Club shall meet Jammu United at 12.30 pm while Churchill XI shall be playing against J&K Police-B at 2 pm.
