Physiotherapists reject 103 posts announced by Govt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 3: State government has once again played joke with the unemployed physiotherapists by announcing 103 posts for them as per the recent statement given by Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma. According to the official sources, 103 posts would be filled in the duration of three years, 41 posts for this year, 42 for next year and the remaining 22 will be filled in the consecutive year. It is pertinent to mention here that physiotherapy is an important medical branch, but it is neglected by the state government since years. At present there are two lots of 21 and 28 students of 2006 and 2007 batches respectively undergoing courses in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Jammu. Besides this there are thousands of unemployed degree and diploma holders from the private physiotherapy colleges in the state and other parts of the country. Only four physiotherapists have been appointed till date. They are attached in Orthopedic department in GMC&H, Jammu between 1984-2010 and the infrastructure was donated by Red Cross Society. Moreover, in Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar a NGO has taken up the task for physiotherapy and the physiotherapists working there as only volunteers. Rejecting the announcement of Health Minister Jammu Kashmir Physiotherapist Association (JKPA) president Dr Vimal Manhas, said that the government is trying to divide them by announcing only 103 posts for 3000 unemployed physiotherapists in the state. He also said that the association demanded re-opening of government Physiotherapists College and opening of physiotherapy department in every Primary Health Center (PHC) of the state. Adding to his statement he said that the JKPA is protesting from the past 42 days for their right and will continue its protest till the government fulfills our demands.
