Jammu Jan 3: Though coming into being, over three years back the degree colleges in the state setup by previous coalition government still lacks the basic infrastructural facilities resulting in lot of hardships to the students. According to Sources many newly set up degree colleges are still functioning in higher secondary schools and they lack laboratories, libraries and other basic facilities. Sources said some of the colleges even have the shortage of teaching as well as non-teaching staff and despite the tall claims of government authorities have till date failed to solve these problems. Sources said setting up of new degree colleges in remote area and rural belts have failed to evoke good results as the student community has not been properly benefitted by the decision.
Gulam Hassan Kasanna, student from Bhalessa Degree College in Doda district alleged that by announcing the degree college in the area the problems of the student have not eased. The colleges are functioning in Higher Secondary school buildings, with the result its functioning gets affected. The minister of higher education Abdhul Ghani Malik had to face the public wrath for the failure of government in making the college Bhalessa fully functioning. The minister was also apprised of the problems being faced by the students due to non-availability of college building, staff and other infrastructure. The college is presently headless as government has failed to post a principal there. Even the college is also facing the shortage of non-teaching staff. The people also demanded that due compensation be given to the people whose land has been taken for construction of college building.
The problem is not confined to Bhalessa College only but the other newly setup degree colleges in Jammu region. The Degree College Bhudal is also functioning in a higher secondary school building and it also lacks basic infrastructure. Same is the problem with Government Degree College, Nowshera where even till date the land has not been identified for construction of college building the sources said. Sources said the Degree college Thanamandi is also facing the dearth of staff and laboratory facilities.
Sources said that the NC government led by Omar Abdullah is totally indifferent towards the newly setup Degree colleges in the state which were established by previous government led by Mufti Mohammed Sayeed. Sources said that NC had severely criticized the creation of new Degree college in the state and to prove the decision was wrong government is delaying to provide infrastructural facilities to these colleges.
