Citizens’ forum demands answer for discrimination with Jammu, Ladakh
1/4/2011 9:56:36 PM
EARLYTIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 4: Hailing the dissenting note submitted by Swami Raj Sharma and representative of Ladakh to the report submitted by the chairman State Finance Commission, Mehmood-ur-Rehman, that Jammu and Ladakh have faced discrimination, Citizen Forum has demanded the Government reaction to the same.
In a press statement issued today R.K Chadha, president forum has said that the dissenting notes sent by Sharma in the report submitted to the Govt. by the chairman State Finance Commission amply indicate gross discrimination against Jammu and Ladakh regions in the field of economic development.
Chadha has demanded that recommendations made by the two members of the Finance Commission that separate development boards for three regions of the state should be set up and separate funds should be allocated for the same.
He has further said that since its establishment over a year ago the Commission has not held any meeting with any section of the people, who have stake in economic development. Only salary is being disburse to the Chairman and members without any practical task assigned to them.
In case the recommendations of the members from Jammu and Ladakh are not accepted by the Govt., it will be better that the Commission is wound up, since it will be only a white elephant for the state, Chadha
has said. Citizen Forum has also described the appointment of task force for development of Jammu and Ladakh as a futile exercise and an eye wash. Further, criticizing the Central and State Governments for blatantly discriminating against Jammu region on the tourism front Chadha has demanded that three separate tourism development boards for Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, should be set up, with allocation of separate
funds by the center for development of tourism infrastructure in the state should also be earmarked separately for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, so that the authorities do not misappropriate the same.
