Sewa Samiti-PUSDC perform last rites of 200 ‘unknown dead’

Jammu, Jan 4: J&K Sewa Samiti in collaboration with Purmandal-Utterbahini Shrines Development Committee (PUSDC) today organised a memorial yatra to Holy Purmandal town for immersion of ‘last remains’ of more than 200 ‘unknown dead’ in the holy Devika river here.
The yatra led by Gulchain Singh Charak, president, Purmandal-Utterbahini Shrines Development Committee and Surinder Saharan, president J&K Sewa Samiti started from Jogi Gate cremation ground.
The ‘last remains of more than 200 unknown dead were immersed in Devika river also known as Gupt Ganga amidst chanting of vedic mantras and traditional rites by renowned Pandit Amarnath Shastri.
Talking to reporters at Purmandal, Charak said that Purmandal is a historic place and its importance can be gauged from the fact that it has been mentioned in Vedas and Puranas. “River Devika is the incarnation of Goddess Parvati and is considered as the elder sister of river Ganga,” he informed.
Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak appealed to the people of Jammu to perform the last rites of their loved ones at Purmandal.
Surinder Saharan, president J&K Sewa Samiti informed that Sewa Samiti has been performing the immersion of last remains of unknown dead at Haridwar earlier. This time the last remains of more than 200 dead were immersed in holy Gupt Ganga as Purmandal-Utterbahini Development Committee president Gulchain Singh insisted to perform the ritual at Devika saving both money and material to a philanthropist organization.
Saharan thanked PUDC initiative and appealed the people of Jammu to perform the last rites of their loved ones at Purmandal and promote this pilgrimage place of historical importance.
Prominent among those who participated in the performing the ritual included Krishan Lal, Sr. vice president, Pawan Kumar and Ramesh Kumar, vice president, Rakesh Sharma, general secretary, Billu Aggarwal, cashier Sewa Samiti, Bashir Ahmed Malik and Dr. Rajesh Kamar of PUDC.
