Stringent action against traffic norms violators: Shabir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JAN 04- Minister of State for Transport, Shabir Ahmed Khan has called upon the transport department to ensure strict implementation of traffic rules to avoid road accidents and provide an effective traffic management to the people He said that awareness camps about road safety measures at different levels can go a long way in minimizing road accidents in the State. The Minister was speaking at a function, organized by the Motor Vehicles Department, Jammu to observe 22nd Road Safety Week, here today. On the occasion, a painting competition was also organized at Kala Kendra. Shabir said that like other parts of the country, Road Safety Week is being observed in Jammu and Kashmir also. He appreciated the children for taking keen interest in painting competition on different road safety measures. The Minister appealed people to cooperate with the department in checking overloading. He asked concerned authorities to involve the public in their endeavours for better traffic management on all routes. He asked them to advise the drivers to obey traffic rules and develop safe driving habits to contain road accidents. Shabir instructed the officers to conduct regular checking of vehicles and ensure that no overloading and rash driving take place. He said stringent action would be taken against those who indulge in violation of traffic norms and reckless driving, adding that a campaign would be launched to check fitness certificates, seating arrangement and the size of seats across the state. Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, Varinder Singh Slathia and other officers of the department were present on the occasion. The paintings were evaluated by panel of judges including, Joint Director Information, Jammu, Soujanya Sharma, Ex. Principal, Institute of Music and Fine Arts, T. R. Batra and Cartoonist, Punjab Kesari, Manoj Chopra. In the painting competition, the first group from Ist to Vth Class Parmarth Singh of Shangrilla Public Hr. Sec. School bagged 1st prize while Diksha Kumari of Light House Public School and Tania Panday of Shanrilla Public Hr. Sec School clinched 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. Besides, prizes were given to Abhinandan Verma, Komudi Mengi and Karanveer Singh. In 2nd group from VIth to VIIIth Class, Aashmeen Kour Arora of Presentation Convent Senior Sec. School bagged 1st prize while Pratiksha Bhat of J&K Police Public School and Gargi Gupta of Shangrilla Public Hr. Sec School got 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. Consolation prizes were given to Adeep Bhougal, Vidushi Gupta, Simran Madyah and Pooja Singh. In 3rd group from IXth onwards, Kumar Vasu of DBN Vidya Mandir while Diksha Koul and Samridhi Bhargav of Presentation Convent Senior Sec. School bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively while consolation prizes were given to Urvi Kapoor, Akash and Ugma Choudhary.
