Manohar meets Kerala Coop Minister | Discusses measures to boost State's Cooperatives | | EARLY TIMES RERPORT JAMMU, JAN 4-Minister of State for Cooperatives, Printing and Stationery and Elections, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma who is presently on a visit to Kerala, today met with Minister for Cooperation of Kerala, G. Sudharakan and had a detailed discussion on cooperative related issues concerning both the states. During their meeting, G. Sudharakan briefed Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma about the functioning and role of Cooperatives in his state. He mentioned that the Department of Cooperation in Kerala has different types of cooperative societies and presently 20,785 Cooperative Societies and 17,258 auditable societies are funding in the State. Dr Manohar Lal Sharma while briefing his counterpart Minister stated that Jammu and Kashmir is one of the front runner states to have enacted liberalized piece of legislation on Cooperatives known as the J&K Self Reliant Cooperative Act of 1999. He said that under the Cooperative Societies Act 1989 more than 1500 Cooperative Societies have been registered under different nomenclatures in different economical areas while for revival of Short Term Cooperative Credit Structure in the State, Centrally sponsored programme called as Vaidyanathan Package is being implemented. Dr Manohar Lal informed that for empowerment of women in the State, two Women Credit Cooperatives have been registered which are expected to be full-fledged soon. It was decided in the meeting that a team of officers of Cooperative Department from Jammu and Kashmir State headed by the Secretary to Government, Cooperative Department shall visit the State of Kerala to study the working and role of Cooperatives there and share their experiences.
