| Bhalla for timely collection of EP rent dues | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Jan 4: For making it a recurring source for revenue generation,the State Government is embarking on a plan to develop shopping and residential complexes on the vacant evacuee land across the State to be put on lease to the interested parties, announced Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla while chairing a meeting of officers of Evacuee Property (EP) at civil secretariat, here this morning.
Custodian General, A A Latief U Zaman Deva, Secretary, Revenue, Ejaz Iqbal, Provincial Rehabilitation Officer, Abdul Majid Wani, Custodian, Kashmir besides other senior officers of revenue and EP were present on the occasion.
Interacting with the officers, Bhalla asked the officers to put their sincere efforts in providing best services to residential as well as commercial occupants of EP assets.
Elaborating upon the plan proposal, the Minister said complexes and residential flats would be constructed on the hundreds of vacant evacuee property land in the State and the same would be provided on the prescribed rates fixed by the EP to offices and people in general.
He said EP department is constructing multipurpose community hall at Wazarat Road, Jammu, Oriental shopping Mall at Chand Nagar, Jammu, residential flats at Anand Nagar, Dhamwal and multipurpose community hall cum-health club at Udheywala for which Government has earmarked Rs. 17 crore. He asked the concerned authorities to complete the tender and other formalities so that the construction works on these
could be started for the convenience of general masses. Mr. Bhalla asked the officers to accelerate the recovery process from Government offices, residential and commercial tenants adding action under rules would be taken to those who could not pay their rent
charges in due time. He asked them for speedy disposal of pending issues of people adding Government is committed to provide people friendly administration to the people in the State. He asked to prepare estimates of those dilapidated condition buildings in State so that the inhabitants do not feel any inconvenience.
The Minister also informed that a comprehensive plan has been prepared for renovation and upkeep of Evacuee Properties (EP) in the city and its peripheries, adding that the department has been asked to charge nominal fee from tenants who are chronic patients and physically challenged, besides below poverty line families.
The Minister said the Government has revised EP rules to ensure that the tenants may not face any problem in the maintenance of the property they are living in. He said that permission for repairs of old evacuee houses would be granted within 21 days by the concerned Custodian Officers without charging any amount in any form. The
Minister said that henceforth lease of EP would be granted for 20 years for residential purposes and 40 years for commercial and other purposes. Bhalla asked the officers to computerize the revenue records in a time bound manner for the convenience of people, adding that people should not face any difficulty in getting relevant papers about their
land records. He asked the officers to work in coordination to come up to the expectations of the people.
