Laharwal for promotion of hockey in state

JAMMU Jan 4: Trials-cum-coaching camp was inaugurated in Hakku Stadium for Senior national Championship.
After the amalgamation of two wings, J&K Hockey has emerged as a single unit for looking after the affairs of Hockey at National as well as at State level.
The Hockey J&K had organised a function in Hakku Stadium in connection with selection trials and deployment of probables for senior nationals in men and women sections at Sonipat and Pune respectively. The teams are going to participate in the national events after a gap of three years and six years respectively.
Speaking at a function organized by Secretary, J&K State Sports Council S.A. Laharwal, stressed upon the need for improvement/promoting the game of Hockey which has died down in last two decades. Laharwal highlighted the interest taken by the Chief Minister and Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Medical & Technical Education for promoting each and every game in the State of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly Hockey.
In this connection, a function was held on National Sports Day at Hakku Stadium, Jammu which was presided over by the Minister for Youth Services & Sports and Minister for Revenue and Rehabilitation.
A portrait of Major Dhyan Chand, a renowned Hockey player of India was unveiled at Hakku Stadium and players who had participated at National level in different games were honoured at the said function.
The Hockey members put forth certain demands which included pending claims, providing of equipment, coaching facility, waiver of fee for Astroturf and providing of one Astroturf Stadium in Kashmir valley. The Secretary, J&K State sports Council assured the office bearers of the Association that J&K State Sports Council shall provide every facility and assistance in respect of pending claims, equipments, coaching facility, waiver of admission fee etc. A proposal for providing one Astroturf in Kashmir valley has already been submitted to Govt. of India under the scheme "Development of Urban Infrastructure". The Astroturf shall be laid at Srinagar immediately after it is approved by the Central Cabinet. The Sports Ministry, Govt. of India has also been requested to provide additional day boarding centre in respect of the game of Hockey for Jammu and Srinagar, besides, a six weeks certificate course shall be held at Jammu in the game of Hockey for which the coaches shall be provided by the National Institute of Sports (NIS) Patiala.
The function was attended by Hony. Secretary, Hockey J&K Mohinder Kour; G.B.Bakhshi Secretary Hockey J&K; Prof Ranjeet Kalra, renowned Ranji Trophy cricketer, Rajan Sharma, Sports Officer Jammu and other office bearers of Hockey J&K. Vetern players Shri Inder Singh Shri Kohli were also present. Earlier, Secretary J&K State Sports Council was introduced to the players in Men and Women sections out of whom the National probables are to be selected.
