ET management continues to face govt harassment | | | Jammu: The management of the 'Early Times Newspaper' continues to face the harassment and official penalization at the hands of state government. After denying government advertisements and also sealing other business establishments of the owners of ET, on flimsy grounds, now they are planning to implicate the management in false cases, including rape charges on them. Even certain miscreants were openly involved in grabbing land of which legal owner is Ex -corporator and ET Editor In Chief Bansi Lal Gupta. Despite High Court notice served upon the concerned police station to stop brazen land grabbing but the officers over there have refused to take action for unknown reasons. Since the owners of the newspaper refused to bow down, the government has started hitting them at the personal front also. The bold and independent stance in the projection of the issues of public related issues has not been palatable to the present government. It is pertinent to mention here that the whole drama flared up with the publication of news item of an attack on a temple at Anantnag based on the Press Release of the Police Control Room which was carried by other newspapers too. Making this news item the basis for launching harassment campaign, authorities sealed both Press and Office on July 1 without giving any prior notice. Interestingly, formal notice was issued after the seizure of the Press and the Office. And since then the harassment to the ET management continues. |
