| Pahari students elects new body | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 5: All J&K Pahari Students Cultural and Welfare Forum held a meeting in Jammu University to announce new members. As per the statement, Fayaz Mirza was elected as president of the forum. Banu Pratap as senior vice-president, Mudabbar Mirza as general secretary. Aamir Suhail and Shashi Paul as vice-president, Gulzar Malik as organiser, Dheeraj Kumar as convener, Murtaza Khan as press secretary and Mirza Shahid, Arun Kumar and Govind Singh as joint secretary.
Later addressing the meeting the newly elected president urged the government to give Paharis Scheduled Tribe status. He said that even the Justice Sagheer Ahmed Commission has recommended the ST status for the tribals.
He alleged that majority of the Pahari population living in Jammu and Kashmir is facing discrimination at the hands of successive state government and they have been denied their share of development.
