JAMMU NOV-07-
To protest against the Government apathy towards the burning problems of the Migrants, a ‘symbolic self- immolation’ was conducted by the Kashmiri Pandits near Press Club here today. The self- immolation in symbolic manner organized under the banner of All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC) was carried out following the failure of the State and the Central Governments to mitigate the long pending demands including the political rehabilitation of KPs.

In a hand out the Committee said that Kashmiri Pandits carried out a symbolic self-immolation in protest against the Government’s silence over the plight of KPs, who are heading towards extinction.
The handout claimed that the economic package and political rehabilitation demanded by the APMCC have not been given thought by the State Government as well as the center forcing the migrants to launch an meaningful struggle to achieve the objective.
The Committee reiterated its demands, which included economic up- liftment of the community, job opportunities of the unemployed youth, granting constitutional rights and constitution of Kashmiri Pandits Autonomous Development Council in exile.
The hand out alleged that out of three lakhs jobs created in the State during the past few years, only 425 youth from the community has been employed till date.
