5th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament | Vijay Club stuns Food and Supplies to enter QFs | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 05: The formidable side of Vijay Club today demolished the departmental pack of Food and Supplies XI to find berth in the quarterfinals of the ongoing 5th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament at GGM Science College ground, here. In an interesting battle of supremacy between local Vijay Club and team of professionals, former emerged winner 3-2 in tie-breaker. Earlier, the 70-minute game remained barren as no one from either side could succeed in netting the ball despite numerous attempts on the goal. However, in tie-breaker, Vijay Club proved to be a better side. In tie-breaker, Tanpreet Singh, Vinay Sotra and Rohit Kalsotra successfully netted the ball while Nainjyot Singh and Ricky Mehra missed the target. From Food and Supplies, Wasim Ahmed and Iqbal Ahmed succeeded in converting their penalty kicks into goals while Jahangir, Irfan Ahmed and Jamshed Ahmed failed to beat the guard at the net. This match was officiated by Rajib Dev (cente), Harneet Singh, Vinay Mooman and Suresh Gupta.
Young Hero drubs Jammu Sports-A
Meanwhile, in another per-quarterfinal of the day, Young Hero registered 4-3 win over fighting Jammu Sports-A to reach the last eight stages. Earlier, Jammu Sports-A took first lead when Davian scored a goal in the very second minute of the game. Young Hero equalized in the third minute through Ricky Kumar in the third to make it 1-1 in the first half of the play. Later, in the second half, Young Hero added two more goals to take invincible lead. Jammu Sports-A fought back but it was too late to recover. Rahul Sharma and Rahul Ghai scored in the 40th and 43rd minute respectively to bring the score to 3-1. However, Jammu Sports reduced the margin through Binny who netted the ball in the 53rd minute but only to find Rahul Ghai maintaining the lead with his second in the 63rd. Later, Danny successfully converted a penalty kick awarded in favour of Jammu Sports in the 68th minute but it was too late to match the opponent tally. Harmanjeet Singh (centre), Fiestus Sotra, Yusuf Don and SM Gill conducted this match. In today’s matches, vice-president of Jammu wing of Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA), Dr Nirmolak Singh was special guest, who was introduced with the teams. Treasurer of JKFA, R K Kohli was among others present.
Musa gets walkover: Meanwhile, in another scheduled pre-quarterfinal of the day, Musa Club got walkover BSF Jammu to find berth in the quarterfinals.
FIXTURE: Quarterfinals: Science College: J&K Police-A shall take on Musa Club at 12 noon and J&K Bank to face Vijay Club at 3 pm. Mini Stadium Parade: 9th Assam Regiment XI shall meet J&K Police at 12 noon and Young Hero shall face J&K Forest XI.
